Parent/Teacher Conferences

The conference Manager system will close Wednesday November 27 to book Parent/Teacher Conferences. Thursday evening Nov.28 conferences will be In-Person and the Friday morning Nov. 29 conferences will be Online.

  • 10 Minute timeslots for Kindergarten, Grade 5-9, Phys.Ed and Music students (this is to accommodate the amount of students so that we can open as many timeslots as possible)
  • 15 minute timeslots for Grade 1-4 Students
  • Grade 5-9 student conferences will be with both their Math/Science and Humanities teacher, so only book 1 timeslot.
  • It’s important to note that there are not enough timeslots for every family in Grade 5-9.  You do not have to book in a conference if you have a clear understanding of how your child is doing and you do not have any concerns.

Interpreters for Parent Teacher Conferences

Interpreters are now available on demand during interviews. If you require an interpreter, please book a time in the system that works for you and email your child’s teacher to let them know that you would like an interpreter for the interview.

Spirit Days - Jersey Day on November 28

Students have selected our next Spirit Day to be a Jersey Day on Thursday November 28.  Students can were there favourite team or GW apparel to show some school spirit.

Athletics

Good luck to all of our basketball teams this week as they have their first playoff games! Congratulations on a fabulous regular season and a shout out to our undefeated Junior Girls Team!

Food Bank Donations

The grade 8 Community Care students have organized a competition to donate as many non-perishable food items to the Veteran's Food Bank. Every class will receive a box for collecting their donations to see which class can bring in the most (which will win a special prize.)

The competition has started and will end on November 29.

GW Season of Giving

Starting in December we will be collecting items for the Drop In Centre.  Our Grade 6/7 Community Care class will be organizing an item for each class to collect from the beginning of December until just before the holiday break.  These items come from a list the Drop In Centre has created.  Then the Grade 6’s and 7’s will be creating Care Packages with the items.  This has become an annual tradition here at Griffith Woods that was started by a former student.

Student Celebrations

Students in Grade 5-8 competed in the Beaver Computing Challenge and the preliminary results were released.  Shout out to Kevin Liu (gr 5) and Thomas Lao (gr 5) for their perfect scores!

Design 8 & 9 recently did a collaboration with Sock Rocket.  Tia C in grade 9 won for her "Painting Socks" and Ava F in grade 8 won for "Ducks in Space". If you would like to take a look check out Sock Rocket.  As an FYI, every pair of socks sold, Sock Rocket donates 3 pairs to a charity and Tia and Ava will get to choose the charity their socks go to.

Who sold the most boxes of Davidson apples? Charles Yang (Grade 7) sold a whopping 30 boxes! Amazing job, Charles!

Upcoming Book Fair

The book fair is coming! This year we are having Owl's Nest Bookstore host the fair. They are a local Calgary bookstore located in Britianna Plaza and have been doing fairs with the CBE for a number of years. We are really excited to be supporting a local business who has an amazing selection of books for all ages.

This year the fair will be held from December 2 to December 6 in the library during school hours. Classes will come to the fair during their normal library time, and all other students can come down as permitted by their teachers.

On December 4 and December 5, the fair will remain open after school until 3:30 PM. On Friday, December 6 the fair will remain open after school until 1:00 PM.

Online sales have also started! The big detail when purchasing online is that you need to use the promo code GRIFFITH at checkout so sales are associated with our fair. Online orders can either be delivered to homes for free, or picked up from the store. The promo code is active until the end of the day on December 13.  All books purchased online, including adult books, can be put toward our fair as long as GRIFFITH is included in the promo code.

The website to order from is Owl's Nest Bookstore

We are looking for volunteers for the Book Fair, please sign up if you can make it Griffith Woods School: Book Fair Volunteers
