Meet the Teacher & Harvest Festival
Our Meet the Teacher will be on Thursday September 25 from 4pm - 6pm. This is an opportunity to come into the school with your child and see their classrooms and meet their teachers. These are not formal meetings on how your child is doing in the classroom, as it is early days and those more formal meetings will happen in November.
Outside of the school we will be celebrating the fabulous work of our Garden Club and parent volunteers with some games and Food Trucks.
Grade 9 Teachers will be running a presentation at 5pm in Ms. Coderre’s and Mr. Innes’s classroom to go over all things Grade 9 and High School.
Orange Shirt Day on Thursday September 25
The Indigenous Studies Club has created a video that they will be sharing with classes and we encourage Orange Shirts to be worn on Thursday, Sept. 25 at GWS
Students will be doing lessons in class and thinking about sense of belonging at Griffith Woods, discussing ideas of;
- how to be kind
- how we can connect in positive ways to each other
- how we build positive relationships
- how we can ensure everyone at GWS feels the belong
Terry Fox Run on Friday September 26
The Terry Fox Run at Griffith Woods is on Friday, September 26! We are going to be doing a virtual assembly this year, due to our limited capacity in the main gym. We are thrilled to have arranged a guest speaker with the Terry Fox Foundation, Dr. Rod Rassekh, who will talk to the students prior to our run.
The outdoor run will be from 10:15 - 11:15. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch, cheer on, or run with their child. Grades 4-9 will be running the community loop and the K-3 will be running on school grounds. Students will receive tally marks from volunteers/teachers when they cross the start of the route. As a school we would like to see how many kms we can run.
Picture Day on Wednesday September 24
Classes will be called down to have students receive their individual pictures on Wednesday September 24. Retakes are on October 28.
Book Fair
It's time for the book fair! Next week from Sept 23 - Sept 26 we will be hosting Owl's Nest bookstore in the library. The fair will run during regular school hours and will also be open when we have Meet the Teacher on Thursday evening. K-6 classes will come to the fair during regular library times.
Sibling Meeting Spots
We will have siblings who take the bus together meet each other on the bus, not in the building, now that students are familiar with where to go to catch the bus and know what bus they take. This will help to ensure that all students make it to the bus on time.
Siblings who walk with younger siblings’ home or need to meet for a ride should have a designated meeting spot.
Our School Survey starting in October
Griffith Woods will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students. Please find the details of the survey implementation below.
CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes. Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.
Grades 4-9 students provide feedback on:
- sense of belonging
- positive relationships
- anxiety
- feeling safe at school
- life satisfaction
- general health
- orientation to well-being
- goal-oriented
- self-regulation
- cultural awareness of others
