Halloween

Thank you School Council for putting on by all accounts a successful Halloween Dance and party this past Friday. We can attest to the amount of work that goes into it and we know it was appreciated by the community.

On Tuesday October 31, students are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes.

If your child chooses to participate, please send them to school dressed in their costume that is comfortable for them to wear and participate in all school activities for the whole day. Costumes that include weapons, masks or face coverings or costumes of a violent or gory nature are not permitted.

We ask that parents not send candy, food or other items to share with the class. Thanks in advance.

Photo Retakes on Wednesday Nov. 1

Please ensure your child and their HR teacher know that they would like to take retakes. You can e-mail them or write it in their agenda. Their Grade will get called down in the morning on Wednesday.

Indoor and Outdoor Shoes and Dressing for the Weather

Thank you for sending your child with Indoor and Outdoor shoes as we have students take off their outdoor shoes at the door to help keep our school clean and floors dry. With the weather changing please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather as all students go outside daily for recess and lunch recess.

Remembrance Day Slideshow & Ceremony

We are asking any Griffith Woods families who have military photos of family members they are willing to share to send them to Josh Downey at jbdowney@cbe.ab.ca with the subject "Remembrance Day photos". These will be used in a slideshow during our Remembrance Day assembly. If you sent photos in previous years, there is no need to resend as we'll be adding this year's photos to last year's slideshow.

We will have two assemblies on Wednesday November 8 in our Main Gym to accommodate our student population. You are welcome to come to one of them.

• Morning Assembly: 9:45am (AM KG , Grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9)
• Afternoon Assembly: 1:00pm (PM KG, Grades 2, 4, 6, 8)

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is getting very full of lost items. Please remind your child to check for their lost and found items. The lost and found will also be on display at the front entrance for Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you wish to come to the school to see if any of your child(ren)'s items are in the lost and found please check in at the Main Office and go take a look. It is very helpful when clothing is labeled.

Athletics

All basketball teams are playing this week and we host the Junior Girls here a Griffith Woods on Thursday night.

We remind spectators that while at the school watching games, there are no in and out privileges and CBE code of conduct for students still applies. We all wish to enjoy watching our student athletes compete in a respectful and safe environment. All spectators – students or adults – are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner. We have also come to a decision as a basketball division (Griffith Woods, Bishop Pinkham, AE Cross, Vincent Massey, and West Ridge Schools) that any student wishing to be a spectator at away games must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the game.

Purdys Chocolate Fundraiser

All the money raised will go directly to Griffith Woods School. We will be using the funds to support our Complementary Course Programs in Career and Technology Foundations. Specifically for our younger students to have experiences in the Construction Lab, Foods Room, and in Computer Science. This helps fund activities for our K-6 students in our wonderful spaces and with our fantastic teachers running these programs. See attachment for details.
