Last week we were able to celebrate our wonderful parent volunteers at our Volunteer Tea. Thank you for all you do to make our school great! The weather cleared last Friday for our students to participate in Jump Rope for Heart and raise money for a great cause. Our school council, led by Sarah Farhat put on the first ever GW Carnival for our K-6 families. This week our talented Band will be performing for all students on Wednesday and then for their families in the evening. You’ll see an 18 foot tipi on Monday being set up with our Elder Saa’kokoto, who will lead tipi teachings with classes. We will also have some brave and dedicated teachers staying in it over night. A big congratulations to our badminton team and coaches who had a solid showing in the badminton meets a few weeks ago. Our Junior High students are getting ready for the upcoming track meet on June 10.
CBE School Bus Registration
Families are now able to register for school bus registration for 2024-25 school year. You register on your MyCBE account. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year. Families must register by June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
We continue to accept registrations after the deadline, however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume. Rainy Days
When it is raining but not too heavily, we send all students outside for recess and lunch recess. It is very important for students get some fresh air and movement during the school day. Thank you for ensuring your child has appropriate gear for such weather, such as a raincoat, rain boots, and an umbrella.
Cereal Box Challenge
Students are collecting cereal boxes for our Cereal Box Challenge up until May 27. At last count we are at close to 1300 boxes, only 500 more to match our record total from last year. All cereal boxes collected go to the Food Bank.
School Fees
Please make sure to check your MyCBE account for any outstanding fees as we near the end of the school year.
Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy
A reminder that At GW we have an 'Away for the Day' policy. All phones need to be turned off and out of sight during class time. Phones can only be used in class with specific teacher permission in order to support a learning activity. The expectation is that cell phones will not be on their person during class time and movement between classes. Grades 7 to 9 must keep their phones in their locker. In grades 5 and 6, if students have a cell phone, they will be kept in a safe place at the discretion of their teacher. Smartwatches are considered the same as cell phones and can be worn but not used for communication during class time. For more information you can check out our website, Cell Phone Policy
