Provincial Achievement Assessment

The Grade 6's and 9's are writing their ELAL Part A (writing) exam on Wednesday (Grade 6) and Thursday (Grade 9).  In order for things to go smoothly please ensure:

  • Your child is here and on time as the exam starts at 8am
  • Have them get a goodnight sleep, have a good breakfast, wear comfy clothes, and pack a water bottle and snack
  • If you are excusing your child from school in the afternoon after the PAT, it needs to be called in on the attendance line 403-817-3572 or e-mailed at griffithwoods@cbe.ab.ca before the afternoon
    • It should be noted that there is school in the afternoon during PAT's and they are expected to attend.  If the Grade 9's are excused by their parents/guardians they are under your supervision and should not be on school property

Book Fair Next Week and Book Exchange

Although the school year is coming to an end, there is still some excitement coming to the library at the end of May. During the week of May 26 - May 30 the Scholastic Book Fair is coming back to Griffith Woods. It will run during school hours and will also remain open after school for families on May 29 until 3:30pm and May 30 until 1:30pm.Our previous book fairs have been so well received by the school community that it was decided to run a second fair this year. Thank you for your support! These book fairs give back directly to the library.

To ensure a smooth-running fair, we will be needing some volunteer support. No previous book fair experience is required! See the volunteer link for available time slots:

Finally, the last week of book exchange for students is only a few short weeks away. Thank you for ensuring that students are returning books to school every week. Notices of overdue books will be sent home for any books not returned.

School Council Parent Presentation on Thursday June 5 at 6:30pm in the Main Gym

The Parent council is happy to organise a session for our amazing parent community to be more connected to their students, We will also have a raffle draw for the parents at the session for $100 for the KEG. The draw will be made at the end of the session. Please join us for a great session with Ms. Bogle.

'Mom of three and Registered Psychologist Stephanie Bogle invites you to join us for an engaging and thoughtful conversation about parenting in today’s world — one filled with both opportunity and overwhelming noise.

This 1-hour session is designed to offer encouragement, insight, and practical strategies to help you parent from a place of clarity, confidence, and connection — not comparison!

A few of the topics we’ll explore include:

  • Healthy Boundaries
What boundaries really are (and aren’t), why they matter, and how to set them with calm, respectful authority.
  • The Empowered “No”
Why saying “no” is an act of love — and how to do it without guilt or power struggles.
  • Shame & Self-Compassion
How shame (often unintentional) affects our children — and how we can shift toward parenting that empowers instead of wounds.
  • Social Media & Parenting Pressure
We’ll unpack the unrealistic parenting ideals we absorb online — and how to filter out the noise so you can stay true to your values.
  • Finding Your Authentic Style
There’s no one “right way” to parent. We’ll help you reflect on your own values and build a parenting approach that feels grounded and true to you.

We hope you leave feeling reassured, informed, and inspired to trust your own path.'
