Traffic Safety Week May 12-15
Prizes, Cookies, Crosswalks & Grade 4 Superstars!
Traffic Safety Week is rolling in, and our awesome Grade 4s are leading the charge with a Crosswalk Safety Campaign! They’ll be sharing tips and reminders all week long — keep an eye out for their creative posters (some might even pop up at the cookie table!).
And guess what? We’ve got PRIZES!
Any student who walks, bikes, scooters, takes the bus — basically any way of getting to school that isn’t a car drop-off — as a way to reduce car traffic before and after school - will be entered into a draw to win some prizes! Please remember if your child bikes/scooter/skateboard/rollerblade to school they need to walk their wheels on school property and lock them up.
Thursday, we’ve got a “Cookies for Crosswalks” event! Students who show off their crosswalk smarts—looking both ways, using the crosswalk properly, and following safety rules—will get a cookie as a sweet reward for safe walking!
Let’s make safety week awesome (and delicious)!
Volunteers for Traffic Safety Week
We need 2 more volunteers!
Calling all volunteers!
We’re looking for cheerful helpers at the main crosswalk in front of the school to hand out cookies and chat with kids about how to stay safe out there. It’s a sweet way to support the campaign and connect with our school community!
Let us know if you can help!

Last Day to complete Parent Educational Transition Request Form
Teachers will be working collaboratively starting in May in order to form balanced classes for next year. They put significant time and effort into lists and gather student voice when creating equitable classes to best support learning for all students. You have an opportunity to give teachers making class lists for next year some valuable insight that would support your child's educational needs. The form link above will be available to complete by Friday May 9t You do not need to fill this out if you do not have a request. IPP information does not need to go in here as that document gets passed on each year from teacher to teacher.
The information will be seen by the teachers to provide them with insight from a parent perspective. A request is not a guarantee as there are several factors in creating groupings. We will not take teacher requests for next year as all of our teachers are fantastic, teachers change Grade assignments, and it is very difficult to facilitate. Transition requests that are not entered in that form by Friday May 9 will not be considered. Thank you for your support.
Tipi Teachings Family Event on Thursday May 22 at 5pm
Griffith Woods School families are invited to attend a special evening with Saa'kokoto on May 22. During the day, we will raise a tipi under his guidance and he would like to pass on tipi teachings to our families beginning at 5:00pm on May 22. There will also be Pow Wow dance demonstrations by Elder Shirley Hill and drumming with Troy Delaney, who will teach attending families the Owl Dance. We will end the evening at 6:00pm with a community Round Dance. We look forward to seeing you and your family! Look for the tipi behind the school by the playground!
After School
If you make alternate plans for your child in kindergarten to Grade 4 who catch the bus after school please inform the office and ensure this is communicated with the child and their siblings. Attendance is done on the buses afterschool and we need to be able to know the whereabouts of the students.
School Council Parent Presentation on Thursday June 5
The School Council is happy to organize a session for our amazing parent community to be more connected to their students, We will also have a raffle draw for the parents at the session for $100 for the KEG. The draw will be made at the end of the session. Please join us for a great session with Ms. Bogle.
Mom of three and Registered Psychologist Stephanie Bogle invites you to join us for an engaging and thoughtful conversation about parenting in today’s world — one filled with both opportunity and overwhelming noise.
This 1-hour session is designed to offer encouragement, insight, and practical strategies to help you parent from a place of clarity, confidence, and connection — not comparison!
A few of the topics we’ll explore include:
- Healthy Boundaries
What boundaries really are (and aren’t), why they matter, and how to set them with calm, respectful authority. - The Empowered “No”
Why saying “no” is an act of love — and how to do it without guilt or power struggles. - Shame & Self-Compassion
How shame (often unintentional) affects our children — and how we can shift toward parenting that empowers instead of wounds. - Social Media & Parenting Pressure
We’ll unpack the unrealistic parenting ideals we absorb online — and how to filter out the noise so you can stay true to your values. - Finding Your Authentic Style
There’s no one “right way” to parent. We’ll help you reflect on your own values and build a parenting approach that feels grounded and true to you.
We hope you leave feeling reassured, informed, and inspired to trust your own path.
GW Cereal Box Challenge
We are excited that this years Cereal Box Dominoes fundraiser has kicked off. We are hoping that each student can bring in at least two boxes of cereal to donate to the Calgary Foodbank. Another option is to make a donation directly to the Calgary Foodbank. Every $5.00 donated = 1 box of cereal. Don't forget to indicate what teacher/classroom the donation is for so that can count to their class total for prizes! Donations will be accepted through until May 20.
Students Not Returning
Griffith Woods is experiencing an extremely high volume of registrations for the 2025-26 school year. We have a long waitlist for all of our grades; please let us know if you are moving or leaving Griffith Woods School.
