A big congratulations to all of the volleyball teams for their successful season!  This week they'll be taking on the teachers in our annual Staff vs. Students volleyball match.  The teachers have already started to prepare and stretch for this epic match up. Moving forward all Middle School Athletics are paused because of the CUPE Job Action strike.  This mean that the badminton and track and field seasons are postponed until further notice.

Friday is a non-instructional day (no school for students) and online Parent/Teacher Conferences from 8am-12pm.  The offices will close at 12pm Friday and be closed for Spring Break.  Classes resume on Monday March 31.

Spirit Week

Our students in Community Care Classes have planned a Spirit Week this week where everyday is a specific Dress Up Day.

  • Monday - St. Patty's Dress Up Day
  • Tuesday - Dress Like a Teacher
  • Wednesday - Country vs, Country Club
  • Thursday - Tropical Day

CUPE Job Action Strike

Students have really stepped up and supported keeping our school tidy.  As you know we have nobody here to clean during the day, so there are some helpful things all of us and especially our students can do to help to keep the school clean;

  • Sending students with a litter free lunch
  • Ensuring your child has indoor shoes
  • Students cleaning up after themselves
  • No outside food/drinks coming into the building (more for our Junior High population)
  • Students eating in their classrooms and not in the hallways or stairwells

There are some operational changes because of this strike;

  • Students and staff will be asked to leave the school no later than 45 minutes after the bell
  • Middle School Athletics are paused
  • School Council will be moved online

For more information please visit the CBE website.

Extended Absences

If you know you will be taking your child out of school for two weeks or longer during instructional days please fill out an extended absence form which can be found on the CBE Website and bring into or e-mail the office at griffithwoods@cbe.ab.ca.  The form highlights the school’s and parent’s responsibility:

  • Schools are not mandated to provide schoolwork for the extended absence nor are they required to provide support for missed instructional time when my child returns to school.
  • It is my responsibility to review and support my child’s learning during the extended absence.
  • This absence may impact my child’s academic progress at school.
  • The cumulative effect of multiple extended absences could result in significant gaps in my child’s learning and achievement.
  • This absence may affect my child’s peer relationships at school

Please continue to e-mail griffithwoods@cbe.ab.ca or phone at (403) 817-3572 when there is an absence.
