Thank you for coming in for our Celebration of Learning last Friday afternoon.  It was amazing to see all the learning and growth students have shown since September and to observe how proud they were to share it.

Parent-Teacher conferences will be occurring over two Friday afternoons.  They'll both be online now in accordance with CBE’s decision to move all March conferences online.  Once you book watch for the online Meeting link in your e-mail that’s attached to the school.

Friday March 14 Parent-Teacher Conferences will be from 1pm-4pm and on Friday March 21 they will be from 8am-12pm.  The booking system is open and will close on Wednesday March 12 at 6pm.

Please only book with your child’s Homeroom teacher and/or their PE, Music or Band teacher.

Please remember there are not enough spots in Grade 5-9 classrooms for all families to have a conference, so it is important to be checking MyCBE regularly for assessment.  For all grades, If your child is doing well and there are no concerns it is not necessary to sign up for a conference in March.

CUPE Job Action Strike

Students have really stepped up and supported keeping our school tidy.  As you know we have nobody here to clean during the day, so there are some helpful things all of us and especially our students can do to help to keep the school clean;

  • Sending students with a litter free lunch
  • Ensuring your child has indoor shoes
  • Students cleaning up after themselves
  • No outside food/drinks coming into the building (more for our Junior High population)
  • Students eating in their classrooms and not in the hallways or stairwells

There are some operational changes because of this strike;

  • Students and staff will be asked to leave the school no later than 45 minutes after the bell
  • The volleyball season will continue as scheduled but athletics beyond that will be paused
  • Attendance at athletic games will be limited to parents/guardians of those athletes directly involved in the event.  Students will not be permitted to attend athletic games unless they are the siblings of one of the athletes and are accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Access will be limited to the gymnasium
  • School Council will be moved online

For more information please visit CBE Labour Action.

Extended Absences

If you know you will be taking your child out of school for two weeks or longer during instructional days please fill out an extended absence form - Extended Absence Form  and bring into or e-mail the office at griffithwoods@cbe.ab.ca.  The form highlights the school’s and parent’s responsibility:

  • Schools are not mandated to provide schoolwork for the extended absence nor are they required to provide support for missed instructional time when my child returns to school.
  • It is my responsibility to review and support my child’s learning during the extended absence.
  • This absence may impact my child’s academic progress at school.
  • The cumulative effect of multiple extended absences could result in significant gaps in my child’s learning and achievement.
  • This absence may affect my child’s peer relationships at school

Please continue to e-mail griffithwoods@cbe.ab.ca or phone at (403) 817-3572 when there is an absence.
