Next Year Kindergarten
In 2025-2026 we will be returning to ½ Day Kindergarten Monday to Thursday, and alternating Fridays. This year’s full day kindergarten was a 1 year pilot based on community voice.
GW Choir
This past Saturday our Grade 3 and 4 choir performed O Canada at Saturday’s Harlem Globetrotter game. We are very proud of our students and thankful for the opportunity that Mrs. Nail has provided them.
Dance Residency
For the next two weeks we have a residency with Marcos Ravelo and the Havana Cuban Dance Studio, It will be the fourth year we have had this in our school. This week they’ll be working with the Kindergarten to Grade 4’s and then next week with the Grade 5’s to 9’s. It will culminate in a performance on Friday January 24 at 10:30am in the Main Gym in which parents are more than welcome to attend. Thanks to School Council and the Friends of Griffith Woods Society for footing the bill and supporting this residency in our school.
Middle School Well-Being Action Team
We have selected 8 students from Grade 6-9 to highlight and support the well-being initiatives for our students here at Griffith Woods. Students needed to apply, attend regular meetings, and will be going to Mount Royal University on January 28 for a symposium with all of the other Middle Schools in the CBE. We look forward to work that will come out of this initiative.
Powerschool Updates
From January 6 – January 27, viewing of marks will be disabled in Powerschool so that teachers can begin work on student report cards. If you have any questions about your child’s achievement, please e-mail their teachers.
Athletic Updates
Volleyball tryouts are wrapping up and teams are being formed. Next week starts official practices and then the week after will be league games. Thank you to all the students for trying out.
K-3 Provincial Testing
Currently Kindergarten to Grade 3 students across Alberta are involved in mandatory provincial testing in literacy and numeracy. This testing is extensive and requires a lot of time and effort. It’s formative in nature to help determine next steps and intervention if needed. Schools receive funding based on the number of at risk students in their building and we allocate that funding based on grade and classroom need.
School Council
This Wednesday at 6:30pm in our staffroom the wonderful Mrs. Burrows will be presenting about High School Registration at our School Council Meeting. All are welcome.
