Staff Update

We wanted to share with the larger community that the amazing Ms. Olsen has made a decision to retire before the winter break.  Ms. Olsen helped to open Griffith Woods as a brand new school and so many of you will know her well. She is always calm, always kind and does an exceptional job here for the staff, students and families at Griffith Woods. It will no doubt leave a big hole in our hearts when she leaves, but we wanted families to know so that they could have the time to share their special farewells and memories with her before her retirement.  If you wanted to reach out to her personally, her email is tlolsen@cbe.ab.ca.

Evening Band Concert

Come join us on Wednesday Dec. 11 at 7pm for our Griffith Woods School Concert with our amazing Junior and Senior Concert Bands and Jazz Band.

Athletics Update

Congratulations to our Junior Girls for winning the A final last week and bringing a Banner to Griffith Woods!  A big thank you to all the players, coaches, and parents for a successful season.  Please have players wash and return shorts and jerseys to their coaches.  They’ll be a wrap up party for all players on Monday December 16 after school, 2:45pm-3:45pm.  Volleyball tryouts will start in January, and more information will come out closer to the date.

GW Season of Giving

A grade 9 student led this initiative to give back and do charity work a few years ago with the whole school.  It was a big success.  She actually ended up winning an award for her work with our school community.  Our school, led by our Community Care classes are a going to continue the tradition. Here are the details:

  1. Starts Monday Dec. 2
  2. Each class/grade will  collect the items until Tuesday Dec. 17
  3. All materials collected go to the Drop-In Centre which helps Calgarians experiencing homelessness.
