Parent Educational Transition Request Form
Teachers will be working collaboratively starting in May in order to form balanced classes for next year. They put significant time and effort into lists and gather student voice when creating equitable classes to best support learning for all students. You have an opportunity to give teachers making class lists for next year some valuable insight that would support your child's educational needs. The form link above will be available to complete prior to Friday May 9. You do not need to fill this out if you do not have a request. IPP information does go in here as that document gets passed on each year from teacher to teacher.
The information will be seen by the teachers to provide them with insight from a parent perspective. A request is not a guarantee as there are several factors in creating groupings. We will not take teacher requests for next year as all of our teachers are fantastic, teachers change Grade assignments, and it is very difficult to facilitate. Transition requests that are not entered in that form by Friday May 9 will not be considered. Thank you for your support.
Cereal Box Challenge Begins
Starting tomorrow we will be asking students to bring in cereal boxes to donate to The Food Bank. This has been an annual tradition in which we have raised thousands of cereal boxes for the Food Bank. In order to break our record we would need each student to bring in 2 boxes each. Each class will be organizing their boxes in the most creative way to form Dominoes and will be competing for prizes for the most original and creative display. Check out this video of what it looks like: GW Cereal Box Challenge Youtube Video
This year we will be providing a QR code for families to donate money directly to the Food Bank if interested ($5 = 1 cereal box).
Complementary Course Requests for next Year’s Grade 8 and 9 Students staring May 5
Current Grade 7 and Grade 8 students will have the opportunity to request complementary courses (options) through MyCBE for next year starting at the end of the month in their. Their teachers will walk them through how to do it and will give them time in class to complete their request. Your MyCBE account will be open for you to see the courses available and to support them in their selections starting Monday May 5 and closing Friday May 16 It’s important to know that while we do what we can to honour these requests that there are no guarantees as classes could possibly not have a teacher to teach it or enough students to make the class viable. Also students might be placed in courses they have not selected to fill their schedule. All courses complement our core courses, give students a broad understanding of the Career and Technology Foundations program in the CBE, and we are proud to offer them.
Students Not Returning
Griffith Woods is experiencing an extremely high volume of registrations for the 2025-26 school year. We have a long waitlist for all of our grades; please let us know if you are moving or leaving Griffith Woods School.
Please inform the Admin E Secretary, Trudie Douglas at tcdouglas@cbe.cab.ca if you are planning to:
- transfer or enroll at another school within the CBE
- Transfer or enroll at a non-CBE school
Students coming back in September 2025 do not need to contact our office. We will move your child into the next appropriate grade.
PAT Schedule for Grade 6 and 9
Alberta Education has released its dates for Provincial exams. All Grade 6 and 9 students complete standardized testing in core subjects. The only exception is in Grade 6 Science this year, in which the province is not having the Grade 6 students participate. This is the first year of the new Grade 6 science curriculum.
The test results do not comprise part of the CBE report card, however individual results are communicated to families.
We request families consider the following dates and plan family events, tournament participation, or other absences from school at alternative times. Please ensure your child is present at school leading up to, and on the dates of PAT’s.
