Hello Griffith Woods Families,
This week, we invite our community to reflect on the quote, "From sun in the summer. From rain when it's fallish, I'm going to protect them. No matter how small-ish!" From Horton Hears a Who. On Wednesday, April 22, we celebrate Earth Day. Caring for our planet doesn’t require big changes. Small, earth‑friendly actions truly add up. We can all make a difference by reducing waste, recycling whenever possible, picking up litter, saving energy, and learning just one new eco‑fact each week. Together, these simple habits help protect the environment we all share.

Volunteers
We will be having swimming lessons coming up the first two weeks of June for Grades 1-4 (June 1-5 is Grade 2 and 4 and June 8-12 is swimming for Grade 1 and 3) and we will require a lot of parent volunteers. Please check with Ms. Fraser in the office if you have completed your clearance (if you are unsure) and please remember that once you receive your police clearance document you need to share it with the school. Here is the Volunteer Security Clearance Process.
My 1st Ride Registration is Open
On May 23 & 24, the CBE and its partners are offering the My 1st Ride bus orientation program. This free event is designed to familiarize students with the experience of taking the yellow bus to and from school. The orientation is aimed at first-time riders and students with special transportation needs. For more information and for registration: My 1st Ride Orientation Registration
Hats on For Mental Health
Please wear a Hat on May 6 for Mental Health. Hats On! for Mental Health Day is an annual, province-wide initiative in Alberta. This initiative helps schools to encourage students and staff to wear hats to spark conversation, reduce stigma, and promote mental wellness awareness.
School Bus Driver Appreciation Day
Every school day, more than 620 bus drivers safely transport around 27,000 CBE students across Calgary. These drivers are essential members of our school communities, helping students arrive at school safely, on time, and ready to learn. We encourage families to show appreciation in their own unique way, whether through a note, a small gesture, or a simple thank-you. Your recognition helps reinforce the important role drivers play in supporting student success.
